Maritime heritage education is a founding principle for the Museum, and our unique setting offers an inspirational and invigorating learning environment. Our educational focus is on the maritime history of New Zealand, from early Polynesian settlement to modern commercial shipping. We offer term-time school programmes for early childhood, primary and secondary age students, as well as activities during the school holidays. Altogether we provide educational experiences for more than 15,000 participants every year.

You will find this video a useful tool for your previsit planning or for tamariki or students who need extra support when encountering new environments outside school. We encourage you to show it to your all of your tamariki and their whanau prior to your visit.

We show this clip to your group on the day of your visit to explain our rules and some basic safety information. You may want to show your tamariki and their whanau this short clip prior to your visit as an additional support tool.

We hold a Ministry of Education Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom (LEOTC) contract, and we are committed to delivering high quality educational programmes.
